Rowing for a cause Wishlist continues raising funds for our local hospital needs. Last month alone the Coast community raised more than $150,000 for the needs of our local public hospitals. Wishlist Row for Cancer raised $40,000 for the needs of the Cancer Centre and Reed Charity House, the new accommodation facility supporting Nambour Hospital. Wishlist Spring Carnival Gala Lunch raised $87,000 for juvenile diabetes services locally. Events like these enable Wishlist to again commit $1million to meet the needs of our local health services this year. As the Coast’s only hospital foundation it’s our role to help provide the best possible health care to patients of our local hospitals. Thankfully our operational costs are met by Nambour Hospital carpark profits. In the past eleven years we’ve spent three times the total net profits of the carpark on equipment, staff education, research and the general support of services. As we’ve grown we’ve become a valuable resource to local businesses who recognise the ever-increasing value of our direct access to 5,500 local Queensland Health staff, that is, 5,500 local families. We’ve a duty to ensure that resource is managed to the utmost advantage to your benefit and ultimately that of patients of our public hospitals. For seven years we’ve worked with Heritage Building Society in an alliance that raised $160,000 for local hospitals and provided local staff with better banking opportunities. This year we entered a new three-year alliance with Westpac who offered significantly more opportunities for local health services. The decision to shift from Heritage to Westpac was not taken lightly by the health foundation board who are well aware that many staff now bank with Heritage Building Society. Westpac’s offer eclipsed all others, paying a much higher sponsorship commitment, an extended branch network, commitment to provide people/staff resources, investment products and advice, the capacity for greater business networking, internet banking, business support services such as not-for-profit seminars, a merchant facility and the installation of an ATM at Caloundra Hospital. Westpac offers local Queensland Health workers a great range of staff benefits including no monthly account fees when your salary is paid directly into your account, no annual fees on selected credit cards, bonus interest on a range savings accounts, no establishment fee for new home loans, and discounts on home loans and insurance.
